Terms of use

These terms apply when you use oursteps.uk and the OurSteps app. By creating an account you agree to them. Please also read our privacy policy.
1. Who we are
OurSteps is provided by MB Computers, a business run by Matthew Brown as a sole trader in Scotland, UK (mbc.scot), [ADDRESS]. [COMPANY NUMBER IF APPLICABLE] Contact: steps@ourapp.uk.
2. The service
OurSteps is a friendly step challenge. Your phone sends your steps (and any vitals you choose) from Apple Health or Android Health Connect; you can join groups, see leaderboards, take part in duels and group journeys, and earn badges. We may send push notifications and emails from steps@ourapp.uk about your groups, duels, badges and syncing; you can control these in Settings.
Not medical advice. OurSteps is for fun and motivation. It is not a medical device and figures may be incomplete or inaccurate. Don’t rely on it for health decisions, and speak to a doctor before starting a new exercise routine if you have a health condition. Stay safe: watch where you walk, and don’t take risks to win a challenge.
3. Accounts
- You must be [16] or over to use OurSteps.
- Give accurate details, keep your password and your personal sync code private, and tell us if you think someone else has used them.
- One account per person. Only sync your own health data.
4. Fees
OurSteps is free for individuals and friends’ groups. Branded sites for clubs and workplaces are a separate paid service ordered through OurApp, on its own terms. If we ever introduce a paid feature here, we’ll tell you the price clearly first and you won’t be charged without agreeing.
Where you pay us for anything, you have a 14-day cooling-off period to cancel for a full refund (less a fair amount for service already provided if you asked us to start straight away), and your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 are not affected.
5. Cancelling
You can stop using OurSteps at any time. Delete your account in Settings and we’ll remove your account and all your health data.
6. Fair play and acceptable use
Please don’t:
- fake or inflate steps (for example with devices, apps or by editing data) or sync someone else’s data;
- harass, bully or embarrass other users, or use offensive names for yourself or groups;
- try to get into other accounts, test or overload our systems, or scrape the site;
- use OurSteps for anything illegal, or for gambling or betting on results.
We may remove results, groups or names, or suspend accounts that break these rules.
7. Our liability
- We provide OurSteps with reasonable care and skill, but we can’t promise it will always be available, error-free, or that every sync will work.
- We aren’t responsible for injury or loss from exercise you choose to do, for the accuracy of data from your phone or third-party apps, or for prizes or rewards arranged by group organisers.
- As the service is free, our total liability to you is limited to £[50]. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or anything else that can’t be limited by law.
8. Changes
We may change OurSteps or these terms. We’ll update the date above and email you about important changes. If you don’t agree, you can delete your account.
9. Law
These terms are governed by the law of Scotland, and disputes can be taken to the Scottish courts. If you live elsewhere in the UK, you can also use the courts where you live.
